ExxonMobil has been an active player on the Norwegian exploration scene since 1965, when Esso Norge AS was awarded the first three exploration licenses on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS). ExxonMobil has over the last 10 years in particular actively explored the deepwater blocks of the Norwegian Sea and areas around existing infrastructure in the North Sea and Haltenbanken.

ExxonMobil is the second largest oil and gas producer on the Norwegian continental shelf, having equity in more than 20 producing gas and oil fields, and an interest of about 10% in Norwegian infrastructure for gas transportation and treatment. The company operates the Jotun, Balder, Ringhorne and Sigyn fields.
