Sale of all Norwegian offshore licences to Vår Energi.

As previously announced, ExxonMobil has concluded a deal with Vår Energi for the sale of all Norwegian offshore licences. The transfer of Exxonmobil's remaining upstream assets in Norway took place on the 10th of December 2019. This was one of the largest economic transactions in Norwegian oil and gas history.

ExxonMobil (Esso and Mobil) has had a long and proud history on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, starting in the early days of Norwegian Oil and Gas history back in 1965. Esso received the first licence on on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and Mobil was the operator when Statfjord was found and developed. The company has also been the operator of fields like Odin, Balder, Jotun and Ringhorne and been an active partner in more than 30 other fields.

Esso employees at Forus will be transferred to Vår Energi AS as of 11. December. They bring the knowledge and expertise gained through all these years to Vår Energi AS.

A small group of Esso employees remain at the Forus office to terminate the company's engagements on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.  For the time being the company’s head office will still be at Forus and Jan Åge Hansen will continue as CEO.

Esso Norge’s downstream activity related to Fuels refining and marketing as well as Lubes marketing is not impacted by this transaction.
